Recently I’ve gone to several meetings with Saddleback Church’s Justice and Trafficking Initiative on the topic of helping victims of sex trafficking. It has been eye opening. I didn’t realize that California, my home state, has one of the largest trafficking problems in the nation according to the FBI. I also learned, it isn’t just women from impoverished countries being smuggled in, not to diminish that problem. American children and young adults are also in jeopardy.
The success of 50 Shades of Grey was a huge topic of conversation in the blogosphere, in traditional media channels, and in all places women congregate.
When it was at the apex of its popularity, I was working in an OBGYN office. According to my very official polling data, everyone was reading it. I do mean everyone: pregnant and post-menopausal patients, doctors, nurses, and front desk staff – 50 Shades was the great equalizer. The entire office was addicted to romance.
